Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) is a private, not-for-profit, association of six Portuguese universities, one polytechnic, one public telecom operator and one telecom equipment manufacturer, established in 1992 with a mission to create and share scientific knowledge in telecommunications at world level and to host and tutor graduate and postgraduate students. IT earned the statute of Associated Laboratory in 2001. IT is organized around three main sites: Aveiro, Coimbra and Lisbon with delegations in Covilhã, Leiria and Porto.

The Radio Frequency laboratory at IT-Aveiro offers a complete set of measurement instruments, covering most of the needs in the area of wireless and satellite communications. There is available the following non-exhaustive list of equipment: different microwave components, vector signal generators and analyzers, network analyzers from 10MHz to 70GHz connected with a probing station, several spectrum analyzers until 40GHz, PXI platform with several wide bandwidth receivers and transmitters, anechoic chamber from 200MHz to 20GHz, workstation desktop PCs for signal control generation, including software packages licenses for LabVIEW, AWR, ADS and MATLAB just to name a few.

In the last five years, IT has another research area related with smart clothes and integration of electronic in textiles and your integration in IoT world. In 2019 May, our prototype E-caption 2.0 – Smart and Safe Coat was awarded in the category “new application” in the Techtextil Innovation Award 2019.
